Ross Murdoch was among one of the many winners at the 2014 Scottish Swimming Awards, held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The 15th year of the awards, proudly sponsored by Scottish Gas, recognised many of this years successful athletes such as Commonwealth medallist Erraid Davies, who took WG Todd Prize and Cup for Junior Female Athlete of the Year, and Andrew Mullen, who collected the Jim Anderson Award for Disability Swimmer of the Year. Mullan competed at the IPC European Championships in Eindhoven this summer where he picked up 4 Gold and 2 Silver medals as well as posting two new European Records.
In recognition of his performances this year, Ross Murdoch was awarded the Nancy Riach Memorial Medal. This came after Ross' success at both the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships. In the Commonwealth Games, Ross' Gold medal performance in the 200m Breaststroke made him the fastest man in the world this year, just 29 hundredths off the World Record. This was followed by Bronze in 100m Breaststroke and two silver medals at the European Championships.
